Long before the decorations and lights of our modern Christmas, a quiet story unfolded. Mary and Joseph lived in Nazareth until a Roman census required them to go to Bethlehem. Being the hometown of King David, Bethlehem was known as the house of bread, where soon the Bread of Life would be born while fulfilling the prophecies from the beginning of time…
Since the days of Adam and Eve, humanity has turned from God. Kings failed to lead as God commanded, judges and rulers led people astray, and prophets who cried out truth were ignored, mocked, and persecuted. Everyone fell short of God’s holiness. Yet God was not finished with us and after centuries of warning and waiting… “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” John 1:14.
Though the Lord could have come with the clouds of heaven, seated upon a throne of fire, He instead chose to live as we live, to suffer as we suffer, to be rejected, persecuted, and killed, so that through His life we could finally see the power of God’s grace. .
“16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." John 3:16-17
The Eternal Word became flesh, the Prince of Peace walked in our midst, giving us the greatest gift as a promise forevermore.
