The wise men, often mistaken for kings, were astrologers from the East (likely Babylon or Persia) who recognized a star unlike any other. By faith, they knew it was from the One and Only God, announcing to them the birth of the King of the Jews. So they traveled for weeks to Jerusalem to worship Him, trusting that God would lead them step by step.
Matthew 9-10 “9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.”
This is the moment I knew I wanted to paint! How amazing it must have been for these men to witness such an incredible wonder of God!
Not only were they filled with joy, but they worshiped the Lord by giving Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh; symbols of His kingship, priesthood, and ultimate sacrifice. Even as men of worldly honor, they humbled themselves before the true King. Afterward, God warned the Magi through a dream not to return to Herod, and once again they followed His word.
Their beautiful acts of obedience remind us to listen for God’s voice, follow His signs, and trust His plan above all else. Like the Magi, we are called to pursue Him faithfully, no matter how long, uncertain, or unexpected the journey may be.
