the story

Around four hundred years before Christ, in the final book of the Old Testament, the prophet Malachi foretold the coming Day of the LORD:

Malachi 4:2 “But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings.”

Just as the rising sun drives away the darkness, Christ entered a world darkened by sin as the true Light.

The imagery of wings beautifully portrays the blessing of the Messiah's coming as well. In Christ, we are clothed with His righteousness and find refuge in His salvation.

And just before Christ's birth, Zechariah proclaimed:

Luke 1:78–79 "…because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Years later, at the crucifixion, darkness covered the land as the Light of the world bore the sins of mankind. But three days later, Christ rose victorious from the grave, like the rising of the sun, forever conquering sin and death.
