Matthew 6:25- 26 "25Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"
Here, Jesus reminds us that vanity is not what satisfies. The true food for our souls is God Himself, our bread of life who alone can fill our hunger.
I started this painting with a dramatic orange sunrise as a reminder that yesterday’s burdens are gone with the rising of the sun, with tomorrow's problems not being ours to worry about. I also made the landscape seem untouched by man, to represent the beauty of God’s hand in our lives rather than human striving.
The birds do not bring anything important by the standards to the world, yet God cares for them. In the same way, His grace was not something we earned, but was freely given when Jesus paid its price on the cross. And in that finished work of Christ is where our hope is found, and where we can dwell in peace.
As the birds soar without worry, may we also fully trust in God’s will. As the tree stands firm in the wind, may we stand firm in His truth. And as the streams run its course, may His word overflow in our hearts.
And as Jesus concludes in Matthew 6:34..."34Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."
